An open letter from Packed with Pride founder
Becky Mizener...
Dear Packed with Pride Supporters,
We have been lifting the spirits of over 65,000 men and women over a period of almost 9 years. That’s over 3 thousand volunteer hours. Amazing isn’t it! Approximately, we have spent over 660 thousand dollars bringing joy and comfort to our deployed military. So many times I’ve been told “You really made my day, receiving the box of goodies was awesome“!
It seems as though the war and our military abroad are not the top news stories any longer. We don’t hear about the war nearly as much as we should. When a Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine is killed or a vital objective is reached it doesn’t make front page news.
Our economy has fallen so far that we just don’t have the financial support that we need. We have been struggling for a while. For example our deposits in the first two months of this year were $ 7,000 and our last two months were $1,200.
I have been praying about this for awhile now, asking God to make it clear what I need to do. When we stopped getting checks in the mail, that was pretty clear. So we have decided to let this ministry go, I feel it has run it’s course. There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: Ecclesiastes 3:1
This has been a difficult decision for me as you can imagine. I have tossed and turned over this matter. It wasn’t easy for me to say the words, “We are closing our doors”.
We will not be packing any more boxes. I will ship the ones we have already set to go. August was our last packing day. Any product we have will be given to our local community shelters. Any money we have (not much) will go to the San Francisco Airport USO room. We would like to purchase and donate an item they need in my son Jesse’s name. We will sell any equipment we have at a later date. After our books are clear, my goal is to be completely out of the building by December 1.
Out of a desperate need to find purpose and make sense of my life. Packed with Pride began. I had no idea it would have been such a blessing to so many for so long. I’m so grateful for all of you who have come in to pack boxes and sort product. My memories are many and will be my treasures for years to come.
Thank you to the Central Church of Christ for letting us use your building. Thank you Village Barber Shop for the fundraising you’ve done. Thank you Food 4 Less for your donations of product. Thank you those who were faithful in donating every month. Thank you for those who were faithful in packing every time we were open. Thank you to our webmaster, our CPA William Hartley, our bookkeeper D&R Bookkeeping and Online Printing for our printing needs. Thank you Pastor Dunn for being supportive. Thank you Stephanie and the late Mike Fetherlin who helped me get this idea off the ground. The list of people I would like to thank is really too long to mention. Just know that all of you are greatly appreciated.
I am sad, but I’m also looking forward to seeing what God has in store for me and my family. Continue to support our troops. There are many organizations that you can support. Wounded Warrior is an amazing organization. Operation Care and Comfort in San Jose sends packages. Modesto Blue Star Moms also send care packages. Please continue to pray for our deployed military and their families.
Thank you again for supporting me and my passion to support our troops.
Always remember: Our Soldiers are not only fighting the enemy, but the weather, lack of a warm bed, lack of many things we take for granted. But what they do have is Pride, Courage, Honor, Endurance, our gratitude, respect and support .
With genuine affection and the pride of a soldier's mother,
I remain yours truly,
Becky Mizener
