Packed with Pride Participates In Second Annual America Supports You Community Group Summit

Secretary Of Defense Donald Rumsfeld Thanks Members For Their Service

WASHINGTON, DCAmerica Supports You team member, Packed with Pride, participated in the Second Annual America Supports You community group summit at the Department of Defense this week.    America Supports You is a Department of Defense program that recognizes citizens’ support for members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.  The annual summit provides an opportunity for community organization members from around the country to come together to discuss best practices, coordinate efforts and share their talents and resources.

“The commitment and support that each of these groups provide to our military members and their families demonstrate how Americans can and are doing their part to show their support for our troops, and to make sure that our troops are well aware of the strong support they have here at home,” said Allison Barber, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs.  “We’re honored to have the leaders of these fine organizations here today and we are grateful for their service to our nation.”

Becky Mizener of Packed with Pride started her day with a tour of the White House and was later addressed by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld during a meeting at the Pentagon.  Eighty-six America Supports You members, representing 81 organizations, attended the meeting, which was the second meeting at the Pentagon with America Supports You community organizations since its launch in November 2004.

America Meets Packed With Pride!

Thanks to Fox News' Dayside with Linda Vester

On December 8th DaySide with Linda Vester interviewed Becky and

provided Packed With Pride.com a national audience for our effort.

She was gracious, sincere and generous with her

time and even "packed" a box for Becky to send to our troops.

What a great thing for Fox and Ms. Vester to do.

We send a big "pride" thank you from all of us at PwP.com

The Stockton Record, a local metro newspaper did a

story on Packed with Pride. Click on the image below to view the story:

Jim and Becky were flown into Washington State to meet the
President of the United States!

"He was meeting with the families of those who have lost a loved one in the war. We thought we were just going to get to shake his hand but we had 5 whole minutes alone with him, yep, just me Jim and George!

OK the Secret Service was standing there too, but they don't count.
We told him a little about Jesse because he came in and asked, then
I told him our son died an honorable man doing an honorable job and he hugged us.
I told him about Packed With Pride then he hugged me again and
he kissed me on the cheek!
He signed 3 pictures we had brought. One of which was Jesse at his gun in Iraq and wrote "To Alex, your dad was a brave and strong man. Sincerely ..." Then those 5 minutes had just flown by and he was getting ready to leave and I asked "Can I pray with you". He said yes, and we did and he hugged us again and told Jim, (now this is the best part)
"YOU MARRIED WELL" How cool is that???!!

Then we he left and Secret Service took over escorting us out of the room. WOW it was so amazing and very cool. I'm still reeling from the experience. So I'll let you know when I get the invitation to have dinner at the white house : )"
