Pride, participated in the Second Annual
America Supports You
community group summit at the Department of Defense this
week. America Supports
You is a Department of Defense program that
recognizes citizens’ support for members of the U.S. Armed
Forces and their families. The annual summit provides an
opportunity for community organization members from around the
country to come together to discuss best practices, coordinate
efforts and share their talents and resources.
“The commitment and support that
each of these groups provide to our military members and their
families demonstrate how Americans can and are doing their part
to show their support for our troops, and to make sure that our
troops are well aware of the strong support they have here at
home,” said Allison Barber, Deputy Assistant Secretary of
Defense for Public Affairs. “We’re honored to have the leaders
of these fine organizations here today and we are grateful for
their service to our nation.”
Becky Mizener of
Packed
with Pride started her day with a tour of
the White House and was later addressed by Secretary of Defense
Donald Rumsfeld during a meeting at the Pentagon.
Eighty-six
America Supports You members, representing 81
organizations, attended the meeting, which was the second
meeting at the Pentagon with
America Supports You
community organizations since its launch in November 2004.
